"Pepperhead" Quarantine Edition -- The Ides Of March

"Pepperhead" Quarantine Edition by The Ides of March "Pepperhead" has been an Ides of March live acoustic spotlight song for many years now. It really shows off our harmony blend combined with the true story tale of Al Kovarik, a fella that used to date my sister Janice back in 1955. Al was a "James Dean" type of character (ducktail slicked-back hair, a pack of Luckys in his Ban-Lon shirt sleev...

"Lay Back" has been one of the Ides' personal favorites since we recorded it back in 1973 as a song on our 'Midnight Oil' album. It was also requested by Bob Bergland almost a year ago for us to sing at his dear wife Norma’s celebration of life ceremony. We recorded the original at the famed RCA studios on Sunset in LA. (We bumped into Elvis in the lobby one day!). Poco was in studio "A" (we we...

    Of all the Rock songs with horn sections. This one will always be my absolute favorite! Blood Seat and tears are second in my book. Ides of March and Jim Peterik Berwin raised will always be number one! Rock On Jim! oh and Never get rid of the Gold Les Paul you used to record this song with.

      There will be a 60th Anniversary Ides of March album later this year and the Ides have a song on the next World Stage album in August. He has also co-written 5 songs recently with Don Barnes of .38 Special for .38 Special's 50th Anniversary album. The country rock album that late Jimi Jamison wanted to make will finally get released this August. He basically did country/country rock covers of various Jim Peterik songs like "Sound of Home", "Live Life", "Alive", etc.

      Jim Peterik is still making new music. There will be 2 Jim Peterik World Stage albums this year. The next one comes out in August and has a song by the Ides of March on it. As well as some other songs that Peterik sings lead vocals/co-lead vocals on. Then there will be a 60th Anniversary Ides of March album later this year. And Peterik recently co-wrote 5 songs with Don Barnes of .38 Special for .38 Special's 50th Anniversary album. The 2019 Ides of March album Play On had some great songs on it, like "Blue Storm Rising", "Swagger", "Love or Something Like it", etc. The Ides Brass section features heavily on that album. I would also recommend the song "Secrets of a Woman" from Jim Peterik's Above the Storm solo album (you can listen to it on RUclips, though the album is out of print). It features the Ides Brass section on it, as well. He later re-recorded the song for the Ides of March album Still 19 (the album title refers to him being 19 when "Vehicle" was a hit back in 1970). I like the music and backing vocals on the first version better. Another song recommendation, would be "Cry of the Wild Heart". A song originally written for Survivor's Vital Signs album. It was reportedly one of Jimi Jamison's audition songs for Survivor. Frankie Sullivan rejected the song because he didn't co-write it. So, Peterik later did an Ides of March version with horns. I actually like the Ides version of the song better than the Jimi Jamison version from the "Extra Moments" album. There is also going to be a previously unreleased country rock album by the late Jimi Jamison that features songs written/co-written by Jim Peterik in August.

    Jim Peterik after all these years... my God. Unbelievable how great he is. Then AND now. Vehicle is one of the greatest and one of my favorite songs of the 60's. It STILL sends chills down my spine when I hear it today at age 65! Jim has written many other songs including Eye of the Tiger from Rocky 3. Music is in the man's bones! Thanks for the music Jim!

    How come Jim never sang lead when he was in Survivor?

    • @rainymoon9848
      @rainymoon9848 5 дней назад

      He did sing some lead vocals/co-lead vocals on the first Survivor album on a couple of tracks. "Love Has Got Me" was the song where he sang most of the lead vocals. Bickler only sang a little of that song. The original Survivor version of "Rockin' Into the Night" features Peterik and Bickler singing the song together. You hear Peterik singing the line "I found a sweet Madonna" on that song. "Love Has Got Me" perhaps wasn't the best song. The song "Freelance" was the most Ides of March sounding Survivor song. That probably would have been a better one for him to sing. His very first attempt at doing a power ballad was the song "Let There be Song" from his 1976 solo album. It was a great first attempt and it features Dave Bickler on backing vocals. He probably should have re-recorded that one for the first Survivor album. I think that could have possibly been a hit song. He basically was forced out of doing lead vocals and guitar for Survivor. That is part of the reason why he founded the band Pride of Lions, so he could finally do the co-lead vocals thing. You can hear him sing a duet version of "Eye of The Tiger" on the first World Stage album. I love that version of the song. The Pride of Lions also recorded a live version of "Eye of the Tiger" for their Live in Belgium album. He also sings various songs, in a very different musical arrangement, that he wrote/co-wrote on his "The Songs" album. The bluegrass version of "Eye of the Tiger" is a bit different, and not really my cup of tea, though I like his vocals on the song. I love his versions of "I Can't Hold Back", "Is This Love", "The Search is Over", "Hold on Loosely", and "Heavy Metal". He also does a more bluesy version of "Vehicle" on that album, which is good, as well. There are also a couple of new songs on that album, like "Miracle at Ground Zero" which a recent podcast interviewer asked him about and the song "The Same Muse" which he co-wrote with his son Colin Peterik.

    Jim also included this song on his solo album Don't Fight the Feeling a few years later, though at a quite much slower tempo (song length 5:15 compared to 4:02 on the Midnight Oil album). I've always wondered if the Ides still kept it on their repertoaire, which obviously they do.
